HDFC Bank's classic PVC plastic version of the iconic Infinia card. Before the launch of the Metal Edition in October 2021, Infinia was issued in high-grade plastic on Visa Infinite and Mastercard World networks. While fresh invitations now receive the Metal Edition, existing cardholders retain the classic card's uncapped 3.3% base reward rate and 10X SmartBuy multipliers. Under retention rules enforced from FY 2026-27, cardholders must maintain either ₹18 Lakhs annual retail spend or ₹50 Lakhs Total Relationship Value (RLV), failing which the card faces downgrade to Diners Club Black Metal or closure.

The verdict

For legacy cardholders who held the plastic Infinia before the metal rollout, the card delivers the exact same legendary 3.33% base rewards and 1:1 airmile redemptions. However, cardholders must now navigate the strict ₹18 Lakh annual retail spend or ₹50 Lakh relationship hurdle to retain the card without forced downgrade.

The maths for it

At ₹10 lakh of annual spend the fee waives entirely and 3.3% base returns about ₹33,000 — before any SmartBuy multiplier or lounge value.

The maths against

Cardholders spending under ₹18 Lakhs retail without ₹50 Lakhs Total Relationship Value face mandatory downgrade to Diners Club Black Metal or card closure.

✓What works

  • +3.3% base return on almost everything with no complex category restrictions.
  • +Unlimited lounge access for self and guest, domestic and international (via Priority Pass), with zero spend gates.

✕What doesn't

  • −Strict retention hurdle: requires ₹18L annual retail spend (excl. rent, utilities, fuel) OR ₹50L RLV to avoid downgrade to Diners Club Black Metal.
  • −Discontinued for fresh sourcing; new invitations receive the Metal Edition.

  • −International lounge access requires carrying and swiping the physical Priority Pass card.
  • −SmartBuy flight and hotel redemptions capped at ₹1.5 Lakh per month.
